On images in the language classroom
Pictures have been a part of language learning for years and probably no teacher can imagine a lesson without them. Just think about all the stories that can be told or the language that can be elicited with a single image. Yet in the technology-driven world the nature of images that are used in the teaching process needs to be re-considered. For a modern teenager, who seems to be more visually oriented than ever, an image is a lot more than only a still picture – it’s animated, digital and conveys a multimedia message. This undoubtedly creates an enormous potential to be exploited in the classroom.
