Sounds good - for young learners

Trener: dr Grzegorz Śpiewak

Streszczenie sesji

Whether we like it or not, we simply cannot speak without pronouncing. Can we teach English without teaching how to pronounce it, though? Particularly when we simultaneously try to control a bunch of very lively kids...

Well, that’s exactly the point of this session. I will make a attempt to persuade you that pronunciation is good – both for you (as a great class management tool) and for your young learners (as a truly great motivator).

And, the sooner you accept that ‘pron’ needs to happen every time one of your learners opens their mouth, the sooner you’ll start noticing opportunities to work on it absolutely everywhere, on every page of your coursebook, in every lesson, and definitely with any oral activity you orchestrate.

My other main point is that it takes very little extra time to do meaningful pronunciation work with kids – it’s mostly about not wasting opportunity! And it’s going to make a huge difference to you and your students provided it’s done in very small but very frequent chunks. Sounds are everywhere, sounds are helpful, sounds are crucial. Sounds good?
